Olfactory Memoirs challenges both emerging and experienced writers to reconstruct memories through the sense of smell. Olfactory Memoirs begins as a series of writing workshops, in which participants use the sense of smell as an entry point to explore childhood memories through creative writing. The project culminates in a series of spoken word performances orchestrated to coincide with scent compositions by Brian Goeltzenleuchter.
“Still, it would be a mistake to call Goeltzenleuchter a scent artist. His work in that arena has been part of a broader intention to blur the boundary between art and commercial culture, between art and the self-help industry.”
