Brief Bios:

Dr. Claus Noppeney is a professor at Bern University of the Arts and the Business School of Bern University of Applied Sciences. Since 2009, Claus has developed and managed cultural, research and development projects in the field of artistic perfumery (e.g. funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation). As such, he has been analyzing the work of blogs, perfumers and related professionals. In 2014, he co-founded the Scent Culture Institute in Switzerland, a hub for diverse projects, seminars and events devoted to the sense of smell in culture, business and society (including a popular course on smell culture as part of the contextual studies at the University of St.Gallen). Since 2015, he co-curates Scent Culture News (with Ashraf Osman).

A producer and curator for visual art and film, Saskia Wilson-Brown co-directed the seminal Silver Lake Film Festival and ran international outreach and development Al Gore’s Current TV. In 2012 she started the Institute for Art & Olfaction, a non-profit arts organization devoted to access, education and experimentation with scent. In 2013 she launched the Art and Olfaction Awards, which celebrate excellence in artisan, independent and experimental perfumery. In 2016, she launches the AIX Scent Fair with Hammer Museum, the first survey of contemporary perfume practices to be presented in a contemporary art museum.  French by upbringing, Cuban and English by blood and American by birth, Saskia received her BA in Fine Art from UC Berkeley and her MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins.

Dr. Marlen Elliot Harrison is Managing Editor and a regular columnist for His journalism and research in the fragrance industry has appeared in international print and online publications such as Household & Personal Care, PlayboyMen’s Journal, Basenotes and the New York Times. Marlen also works as a graduate professor, thesis advisor and faculty supervisor for MA programs in TESOL, Education, Writing and Literature.

Dr. Bodo Kubartz is a perfume and cosmetics market expert and owner of Passion and Consulting. His company offers services such as: planning and realizing industry events; consulting in terms of text and communication, marketing, and market entry/sales of brands. He is book author and publishes in industry and trade magazines as well as the general press. His particular interest is the overall topic of ‘niche’.
Bodo received a Ph.D. in Geography (University of Oklahoma/USA) with a dissertation on “Geographies of Knowledge in the International Fragrance Industry” and, previously, a Diploma in Geography (University of Bonn/Germany).
