This ongoing study conducted by Nadine Anderegg, Marco Claude Chavaillaz and Michel Przemyslaw Eggli explores the olfactory dimension at the workplace. The study is part of the research modules within the Master in Business Administration at Bern University of Applied Sciences.
The project takes a qualitative approach and considers workplaces as smellscapes that influence and perhaps even shape the contemporary experience of work. Preliminary results show how the sense of smell helps to temporally structure daily work experiences and that even bad smells can be turned into a positive experience of work. In general however, the preliminary results reveal a surprising uncertainty in dealing with the olfactory dimension in everyday life.
