“The Masticator” by Eric Vrymoed at the IAO

The Institute for Art and Olfaction (IAO) is pleased to present The Masticator – an on-site installation by artist Eric Vrymoed.

For this current project, Vrymoed focuses on ideas around mastication: the frenzy, the consumption, the obsessive. Utilizing sound, scent, and everyday objects, he provokes a disorientation of the senses. Through his use of materials, Vrymoed highlights the connection between it’s destruction and corporeal repurposing.

He invites the viewer to contemplate the absurdity of the labor composed before them; the pounds of gum chewed; the termites corralled – ultimately exploring the alchemical translation of substance though physical consumption and transformation. But, always, with a wink a nod.
