Scent Culture Club: Best Strange Fragrances

Best strange fragrances is the topic for the next Scent Culture Club.Dear Scent Culture Enthusiasts,

We hope you had a lovely break and are enjoying the summer! We’re happy to resume our Scent Culture Club with a series exploring the Top Ten lists from Turin & Sanchez’s Perfumes: The Guide. We’ll start with the last of these (since it happens to be my favorite): Best Strange Fragrances. What makes a scent “strange” and why/how is that appealing?

Spread for “Strange” from Visionaire 42 Scent

The list ranges from a mainstream gem (Bulgari Black) to niche darlings Comme des Garcons (2 Man and Stephen Jones) and Etat Libre d’Orange (Jasmin et Cigarette and the notorious Secretions Magnifiques). It is rather heavy on kinky animalics, such as Serge Lutens’ Muscs Koublai Khan, Miller Harris’ L’Air de Rien, and S-Perfume’s S-ex. But it also includes the elusive Breath of God from B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful and a local star, Tauer Perfumes’ Lonestar Memories.

We currently have most of these scents, and will try to procure the rest by the time we meet. But if you have any of them, please let us know. Also, do you have any other favorite strange fragrances that you think should be on this list? If so, please bring them with you!

You’ll also notice that we’re now charging a modest fee of 10 CHF in order to cover expenses including material costs (fragrances). We will offer you, however, samples of scents we explore to take with you.

We will meet again in the Terrassenzimmer of Zentrum Karl der Grosse. So if we’re lucky with the weather like last time, we could go outside to the terrace.

We hope you can make it!
